Information Collection and Use

The Vilas County Lakes and Rivers Association website collects information about each visitor to our website in three ways: (1) through the use of cookies, device information and IP addresses (all non-personally identifiable data), (2) through any email correspondence you send to us, and (3) when you submit information using an online form on one of our web pages. The first category of information we collect may be required in part for performance and essential function of our website.

We also use and analyze non-personally identifiable data with Google Analytics, which places a cookie on your device, to obtain metrics on how users engage with our websites. This helps us to improve site content to make our website more useful to visitors. We do not combine the information collected through the use of analytics tools with personally identifiable information. Finally, we also use this data for fraud prevention by implementing third-party technology (Google’s reCAPTCHA) that operates on our website to identify fraudulent activity. Use of the reCAPTCHA is governed by the Google Privacy Policy and Terms of Use.

VCLRA never retains or stores your financial data, such as credit card information, on our servers. Instead, when you use a credit card to donate or pay membership dues, we use a heavily encrypted gateway to immediately transmit your information to a third-party payment provider.  Our online credit card transactions are processed on a secure server by Stripe, a large payment provider used by major corporations, including Amazon and Google. VCLRA receives a confirmation record of your transaction (which includes the last four digits of your payment method) that does not contain sensitive information. VCLRA does not store your payment details.

Stripe is  certified to PCI Service Provider Level 1. This is the most stringent level of certification available in the payments industry. You may learn more about how Stripe handles security here.  Credit card information is transmitted using industry accepted encryption methodologies to ensure the protection of sensitive user information. Methodologies include, but are not limited to, SSL encryption, user authentication, Payment Card Industry (PCI) standards compliance, web application and traditional firewall use, anti-malware program use, timely software security patch application, and physical barriers.  Stripe has access to the personal information you provide us only as needed to perform their services for VCLRA and are contractually obligated to maintain the confidentiality and security of the personal information.

The Vilas County Lakes and Rivers Association will not sell, rent, loan, or otherwise disclose any information you provide us to any other organizations, with the exception that VCLRA may use or disclose your information if required to do so by law.
